Debit/ Credit Card via phone – Official Payments Official Payments Pay by Phone is one of the easiest ways for taxpayers to pay a bill. This feature is highly utilized for taxpayers that are satisfying delinquent bills so that collection action will be stopped.
Internet payment options E-Check Payments Taxpayer must register and create a profile- Username & Password Taxpayers can pay both current and delinquent tax bills with the Electronic Check system. This system allows taxpayers to use their bank to pay their bills. It also has the added benefit of allowing taxpayers to see what bills they owe before they are due. They can set up future payments. The only bills that can be paid via this method are Personal Property taxes, Real Estate taxes, and Stormwater fees. There is no convenience fee for this method. CONS The password expires after 90 days of inactivity
Internet payment options Debit/Credit Card Payments Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express Cards are accepted. A convenience fee is added to all credit and debit card transactions. Users can pay Personal Property Taxes, Real Estate taxes, Stormwater fees, Parking Tickets, Delinquent Library Fines, Miscellaneous Invoices, EMS bills, and Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Healthcare bills. Official Payments internet debit/credit card payments has the same usefulness as the Pay by Phone method, but, is geared towards taxpayers who feel more comfortable using a website to pay their bills. This is the preferred method of payment for stopping collection action such as DMV holds and Debt Set Off (DSO)
Rapid Pay Taxpayer pays using their banks bill pay program User references bill number for Personal Property bill, Real Estate, and Stormwater fees City sends file to bank. Check digit routine authenticates the bill number User may pay all or part of the bill Pros: Convenient for Taxpayer Cons: User does not change bill number or indicates wrong number or they will include control number or title number which results in a paper check, or insufficient/incorrect information on file results in an error file being produced after posting
