The Logistics Environment Chapter 2 - CLA The Logistics Environment Activity: Have participants design a warehouse based on a set of products using the 2 primary layouts. Ask the participants to read the 4 paragraphs on page 28 “Warehouses and Distribution Centers.” Then divide the class into groups 2-4 and have them pick a set of products to distribute. Based on that product and the information from the book, they should design a warehouse/distribution center (building and exterior) on a flip chart (or dry-erase board) for that set of products. Teams need to consider for the layout style, interior space requirements and security needs in their designs Time: 15-20 minutes Objectives: Describe the common types of warehouse layouts and how material flows through each area Describe major security requirements for a warehouse and the purposes of the various security systems Discussion: Discuss the common types of warehouse layouts Discuss benefits/cons for each design Discuss the security considerations needed for the warehouse Materials Needed: Flip charts for each team (or dry erase boards) Markers for each team
