Presentation transcript:

Treasure maps and a compass Year 1 Term 6 ENGLISH As Writers, we will be using another Jonny Duddle book, ”The Pirate Cruncher” to inspire us again. We will create character and setting descriptions and write our own adventures set aboard a pirate ship. We will look at non-fiction texts about the growth of sunflowers and keep our own sunflower growth diary. We will continue to make our writing more interesting by adding adjectives and adverbs. MATHEMATICS As Mathematicians, we will practise counting money and learn about the £1 and £2 coins. We will calculate the price of two objects and then work out the change from 50p and £1.00. We will continue with our work on multiplication and division, using our skills with these operations to solve money problems. READING As Readers, we will be continuing to develop our knowledge of phonics and this term looking at the alternative pronunciation of words. We will continue to explain what is happening in our books we read, predict the ending and make simple inferences. SCIENCE As Scientists, we will be learning about the major organs of the human body, the human senses and which organ is associated with each sense. We will learning the seasons of the year and finding suitable clothes for the weather patterns of each season. DT As Designers, we will be designing and decorating our own pirate flags. We will be using tools to cut, slice and grate a range of fruit to create a fruit salad and then writing instructions and creating recipe cards. P.E (Wednesday) As team players, we will be will be playing team games and developing our co-ordination skills and control of balls. We will also be learning about a healthy lifestyle and recognise how to stay healthy. HISTORY As Historians, we will research and learn about explorers and their journeys from history and how they use map and compasses to travel around the world. We will hear the story of Grace Darling, and how she saved sailors at sea. GEOGRAPHY As Geographers, we will be looking at maps of the British Isles, identifying and labelling the countries and their capitals. We will also name the oceans. We will identify north, south, east and west and identify these points in our school environment. ART As Artists, we will be studying the work of Vincent Van Gogh and learning about his life and the many paintings he created. We will look closely at his many sunflower paintings and use them as a guide to paint our own sunflower paintings. WIDER CURRICULUM PE every Wednesday Parent event 14th June Sports day 21st June
