Works Cited Page The easiest way to mess up your research paper that is ironically the easiest part of the research paper.

Works Cited Center-aligned at the top of the last page you will type in Times New Roman- Works Cited The entire page will be double-spaced in continuity with the rest of your paper.

Parenthetical Citation Parenthetical is an simple way in which to coordinate your in-text citations and works cited page. Example: Mr. Reedy goes on to say that alphabetical order is important on a works cited page in the next chapter of his book, The M.L.A. Format (Reedy 43).

One Author with Page numbers The Medical Journal went on to state that 1 out of every 2 men will develop prostate cancer by the year 2025 (Lambert 32).

Author Unknown *If the author’s name is unknown, simply list the name of the work in parentheses, omitting the page #. *If it is a book, underline the title. *If it is an article or journal, etc. simply provide a signal word or phrase in quotation marks; typically it will be the first word(s) of the title.

Author Unknown A book: (Night 27). Magazine, Journal, etc. (“Fun Times” 2).

Author’s name precedes the quote or paraphrase If the Author is given credit by name during the course of a quote or paraphrase then a mere page number is all that is required in the parenthetical citation.

Author’s name precedes the quote or paraphrase Reedy states in his book that the M.L.A. Format is quite simple and effective (49). When might this situation arise?

Page Number Unknown You may omit the page number from the parenthetical citation if the text lacks numbers. This is the case with many web sources. Only the author’s name is required i.e. (Reedy)

One Page Sources The M.L.A. Format allows but does not require for you to omit the page number. Including a page number will allow for readers to know that you are making a citation in the text and/or where that citation ends.

Two or Three Authors In Parenthetical Citation: (Allen, Colt, and Miller 258). Make sure the first, last name to appear is the first, last name to appear in the citations page. In other words, alphabetize.

Four or More Authors Include the name of the first author with the Latin roots “et al. and others”. (Reedy et al. 35).

Author’s With the Same Last Name (A. Thompson 417). (C. Thompson 18). Make sure that they are listed in alphabetical order on your works cited page using last name and then first initial or so on.
