Limiting Reactants You’re making Ceviche for your boo’s birthday and the recipe calls for 3 kg of halibut fish, 3 red onions, 3 aji amarillos (peruvian peppers), 30 limes. Add cilantro/salt/pepper/ginger to your own taste. Serves 15 If the store only has 2 kg of halibut, how many of each other ingredient do you need? How many people can you serve?

Limiting Reactant (Reagent) is the reactant that determines how much of the products are made

Theoretical Yield is the maximum amount of product that can be produced, based on the limiting reagent Excess Reagent is some leftover product after the limiting reagent is completely used up

1. Balance the Chemical Equation 2. Choose one reactant (A) 3. Use stoichiometry to figure out how many of other reactant (B) you need 4. If based on A, you need more B than you have, then B is your limiting Reactant 5. If based on A, you need less B than you have, then A is your limiting reactant Always use the limiting reactant for all of your calculations
