Children of lir

Many years ago in Ireland there lived a king of the sea called Lir he had a wife called Eva they had 4 children named Aodh, a daughter called Fionnula and twin boys called Fiacra and conn

When they were young their mother died and Lir wanted a new mother for his children so he married Eva’s sister Aoife which is said to have magical powers. Aoife loved the children at first but then became jealous because Lir was spending more time with the children and not her

One day Aoife took the children to go to the lake for a swim and when they were in the water she used her powers to turn the children into swans For 900 years.

The spell would be broken if they heard a ringing of a bell for the arrival of St.Patrick in Ireland. The children could still talk like humans.When lir came down to the lake looking for his children. Fionnula told him what had happened to them so then he banished Aoife. Lir spent all of his days listen to his children singing. 300 years on lake Derravagh had passed so they had to say good bye to their father forever.

They travelled to Straits of Moyle They travelled to Straits of Moyle. For another 300 years they stayed there. When 300 years was up they went to Saltwater Isle of Innis Glora, one day they heard a church bell so they went to a man called Coamhóg who cared for them for their last few years later on they sadly died.
