Can you make these sentences more interesting? The bedroom had a bed, two chairs and a table. (large, small, soft, hard, wooden, glass) There were books and some pencils on the shelf. (old, dusty, new, yellow, long, top) The lane wound its way between two hedges. (shaded, twisty, tall) She entered the forest. (dark, creepy, enchanted)

What an amazing sight met their eyes! They were looking down on a lovely valley. There were green meadows on either side and there was a great brown river flowing past. There was a tremendous waterfall halfway along the river — a steep cliff where the water crashed down into a boiling churning whirlpool of spray. Below the waterfall, enormous glass pipes were dangling down into the river from up high! They really were enormous. There must have been a dozen of them, and they were sucking up the brown muddy water from the river. You could see the water flowing and bubbling along inside them, and you could hear the suck-suck-sucking sound of the pipes as they did their work. Draw meadow and paragraph to describe

Graceful trees and bushes were growing along the riverbanks — trees and pink and red flowers. In the meadows there were thousands of buttercups. 'There!' cried Mr Wonka, dancing up and down and pointing his gold-topped cane at the great brown river. 'It's all chocolate! Every drop of that river is hot melted chocolate. There's enough chocolate in there to fill every bathtub in the entire country! And all the swimming pools as well!

What does Augustus do that is naughty? ‘They are all eatable! All made of something different and delicious! The grass you are standing on, is made of soft, minty sugar! I call it swudge! Try a blade! It's tasty!' Everybody bent down and picked one blade of grass — except Augustus Gloop, who took a big handful. And Violet Beauregarde, before tasting her blade of grass, took the piece of world-record-breaking chewing-gum out of her mouth and stuck it carefully behind her ear. What does Augustus do that is naughty? What does Violet do that is disgusting? DRAW A PICTURE OF THE MEADOW - MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE EVERYTHING IN THE TEXT!

Film clip 35-44 Describe the meadow in your own words.

You are going to create your own description of the meadow. Use the word bank to help you complete the description. You must use at least one word from each box to describe the following: trees flowers waterfall river grass bushes The SHINY bushes were a SICKLY GREEN colour and felt slimy to touch. They tasted like SUGARY CHOCOLATE and smelled MINTY.
