“THIN ICE” group activity Introduce a series of scenarios that suggest unsafe circumstances Ask each child how these things can be made safer Seek input from ALL-Look For the following to be introduced-- Walking home alone Meeting new people Vandalism Playing out alone Playing with glass bottles Not helping those in need Picking up sharp things Crossing a really busy road Being lost AS THE GROUP TO FACE THE OTHER WAY ROUND NOW IN THEIR CHAIRS-(LOOK AT THIS FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE) NOW INTRODUCE WAYS TO MAKE THESE “AREAS” SAFER!!!!!!!! ENCOURAGE DISCUSSION BOARD BLASTY THE SUGGESTIONS AND DISCUSS BRIEFLY EACH ONE. YPO Simon Bradley 2019

WHAT WOULD I DO NEXT????? GROUP ACTIVITY Introduce a series of behaviours that appear to be dangerous if tried, Look for- My friend asks me to stay out late My friend tells me to help them hurt someone I feel scared to be out alone I am threatened by another child at school I am threatened by another child in the street I am asked to carry a knife around school I see someone being hit by children I am asked to carry a knife around town I am asked to swallow a pill/smoke a cigarette Ask each child to think about the behaviours “together” in groups Ask the groups to agree on “what they’d do next” Discuss and open up YPO Simon Bradley 2019
