Presentation transcript:

Special educational needs…. What is Special educational needs…. and how can you help?

A child is put on the SEN register when… additional to…. different from….

What sort of help does a child on the SEN register receive? Support with…. Handwriting Spelling/phonics Behaviour Social skills Maths understanding/skills Co-ordination Speech/language Hearing/visual impairment

What has changed nationally? School Action/School Action Plus  SEN support. Minimal information on website  Local Offer. Statement of SEN  Education Health Care Plan.

What is the same at CtS? Knowing your child and assessing their needs carefully. Providing whatever support is required for all children to make good progress. Setting special targets for the extra support that is in place. Reviewing targets and ensuring progress is made. Seeking advice from specialist agencies if progress remains slow after support has been in place for a while.

What has changed at CtS? The forms that are filled in to support the process and the timings of reviews! BECAUSE More of a working document. Easier communication between teachers and teaching assistants. Smaller steps towards targets so progress is easier to see. Progress can be reviewed more regularly.

What does it look like?

What is the best way for you as parents to be involved? How much information would you like to know? How often would you prefer to be updated? What is the best way to communicate this information to all parents of SEN pupils? If you would like to help your child at home, do you need advice about what to do and what is the best way for us to provide that advice?

Where can you find out more information? Christ The Sower Ecumenical Primary School - Special Educational Needs: the school's local offer

THANK YOU FOR COMING! Please let me know how helpful this meeting has been and whether there is anything else you would like to know!
