What are they? And What can they do? TRANSFORMATIONS What are they? And What can they do?

REFLECTIONS A TRANSFORMATION WHERE A FIGURE IS FLIPPED ACROSS A LINE.

http://www.mathwarehouse.com/transformations/reflections-in-math.php

TRANSLATIONS A figure slides across a plane or through space. All points of figure move the same distance and in same direction.

http://www.mathsnet.net/transform/

Translation: In a translation, everything is moved by the same amount and in the same direction. Every translation has a direction and a distance.                                                                                                                            http://www.mathwarehouse.com/transformations/translations-in-math.php

ROTATIONS Turns a figure about a point http://www.mathwarehouse.com/transformations/rotations-in-math.php

A rotation fixes one point (the rotocenter) and everything rotates by the same amount around that point. Every rotation has a rotocenter and an angle.

What is happening in this picture to make the transformations?

DILATIONS Changes the size of the shape without changing the shape. Use of Scale Factor: Whole Number Decimal Fraction Percent http://www.studyzone.org/mtestprep/math8/g/PracDil.htm

Describe the transformations that were used to make the drawing. Answer: Smallest square was copied and dilated twice and the Middle square was rotated
