What is a Portfolio? “purposeful collection of …. work that tells the story of…efforts, progress and achievement in a given area” Arter, J.A., Spandel, V., & Culham, R. (1995) Portfolios for assessment and instruction (Contract no. RR930002004). Washington DC: Office of Educational Research and Improvement.

Why Portfolio? storage of profession development documentation. Multiple portfolios can be easily created based on use case, e.g., educational requirement, evaluation, accompany manuscript and presentation submissions Decreased time involved in compiling the portfolio Elimination of cumbersome paper-based portfolio development processes Real-time capture of professional development activities Ubiquitous access via the internet Ease of distribution including all supporting documents via hypertext link

What’s in Portfolio? EVERYTHING!!!! License Certifications Degrees CE Both technical (ALCS) and professional (NE-BC) Degrees CE Memberships Community service Awards/recognition Training /seminars Clinical experience Presentations / publications Committee work

Points of Interest Upload and link to documents Pictures, copies of degrees, publications, ppts etc. Create multiple portfolio’s depending on need Magnet PNDP School Performance Eval (suggest to use Magnet format) Ability to send reminders regarding expiration License (think TB, ALCS, etc.) Ability to email portfolio Ability to run reports

Thoughts Accountability at nurse level Nurses at this time ONLY Each individual to enter their OWN data Nurses at this time ONLY Use the “Magnet Assistant” portfolio first Mandatory for all Nurses Assigned via HealthStream on a quarterly basis
