General tips Remember this exam paper is it different and has more smaller mark questions. The biggest question is worth 6 marks.

For this exam you must know… The difference between Sociology and… Psychology Journalism Biology You may be asked how Sociology would explain something compared to another subject (e.g. gender, ethnicity etc)

For this exam you must know… The advantages and disadvantages of each method: Questionnaire Structured interviews Unstructured interviews Group interviews Observations (overt/group) Official statistics Qualitative secondary research (diary)

What you must know… The advantages and disadvantages of different types of sampling. As a rule: if you are asked to choose a type of sample and there is a sampling frame available choose a type of random sample (more representative and unbiased.) If there is no sampling frame and you are looking for a certain type of person use a non-random sampling frame (like a quota sample.)

What you must know… Different ethical issues and how to overcome them… E.g. ensure anonymity by not using names when publishing the study Informed consent by explaining the study to the participants and ensure they agree
