Davis – University of Maryland Global Campus OPTIONAL LOGO HERE Introduction Step 3 Step 5 continued Step 8 In 2013, the Library and LD&S began a collaboration to find Open Educational Resources to replace textbook material and create course content used in the online course modules. Glossary of Terms: ADA Compliance – Americans with Disabilities Act. Content should be accessible by patrons who use screen readers and other assistive technology devices LD&S – Learning Design and Solutions. The course development department OERs – Open Educational Resources SMEs - Subject Matter Experts who are usually faculty or staff contracted by the university to create content Trello – Online project management software Usage rights – Creative Commons License, free to share, use and modify LD&S assigns spreadsheets to librarians as well as a team of outside researchers through Trello, a project management tracking software. Upon completion of searching, librarians alert LD&S through Trello. LD&S reviews the resources found by the librarians and outside researchers for ADA compliance, licensing issues, and any special requirements for attribution, before submitting to Program Chairs for review. Step 4 Step 6 Librarians and researchers find relevant course resources using Google Advanced searching. Step 1 Programs chairs work with SMEs to review the course and determine the key concepts to be taught. LD&S-approved sources include Saylor, Lumen Learning, Open Textbook Library at the University of Minnesota, and Directory of Open Access Journals. Step 2 LD&S creates a Google spreadsheet that includes the key concepts of the course broken down by week or module. Step 7 Librarians provide the title and URLs for 3 to 5 resources they find per concept. (Some courses required fewer resources). Step 5 Librarians ensure that the material they find is covered by a Creative Commons license that allows sharing and adapting or is in the public domain.
