PREPARATIONS FOR THE 2019 CQC INSPECTION VISIT BRIEFING FOR THE COUNCIL OF GOVERNORS Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby Scunthorpe General Hospital Goole and District Hospital Community Services

INTRODUCTION TO THE CARE QUALITY COMMISSION (CQC) The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England All of the services we provide as an NHS Foundation Trust must be registered with the CQC and we must meet certain quality standards in order to maintain this registration CQC use a range of mechanisms to monitor how well care is being provided including through announced and unannounced inspection visits The CQC are due to visit the Trust to carry out a full, comprehensive inspection of services at Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole hospitals and our community services most likely in September 2019 The CQC inspection is a professional assessment of the quality of our services. It is also our chance to share what is really positive about the Trust and the improvements we have made and continue to make. We also have to be open and honest about the challenges we face, and what we are doing to address them The CQC carries out its inspection using five domains: safety, effectiveness, caring, responsive and well-led. Each area inspected will then be scored as: outstanding, good, requires improvement or inadequate The inspection process now includes a ‘Use of Resources Assessment’ which reviews how effectively and efficiently Trusts use their resources and also value for money. The outcome from that assessment will inform the overall CQC outcome and rating

2019 INSPECTION VISIT: PLANNING & PREPARATIONS CQC Steering Group convened to have oversight of visit planning and preparations – supported by Project Management Team Routine Provider Information Request (RPIR) received – deadline for submission: 4 July 2019 The RPIR collates information about the Trust and its services and is used by the CQC to inform their inspection Executive and Non-Executive Director Champions in place to support the service domains in their improvements and preparations for the inspection visit including progress against the ‘must dos’ and ‘should dos’ from the previous inspection Communications Plan agreed including the re-issue of the updated leaflet: ‘CQC Inspection – what it means for me: a guide for managers and staff’ and ‘Time to Shine’ templates (based on the ‘Time to Shine’ folder developed by the Chief Nurse Directorate) for staff to use to record examples of improvements and good practice Calendar of events and briefings in place Focus groups for staff to meet with the CQC have been arranged for Wednesday, 31 July 2019 and will be held across all three sites

2019 INSPECTION VISIT: WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE INSPECTION During the inspection the CQC will want to: talk to staff (all grades and disciplines) about the Trust, the services we provide and about the improvements we have made and the challenges we face talk to patients and relatives observe care in practice review patient notes and other documentation As a key part of the Trust’s governance arrangements, the CQC will also want to talk to governors We will continue to keep governors advised of the arrangements for the visit ANY QUESTIONS
