What is Shared Education? “Shared education” means the education together of— (a) those of different religious belief, including reasonable numbers of both Protestant and Roman Catholic children or young persons; and (b) those who are experiencing socio-economic deprivation and those who are not, which is secured by the working together and co-operation of two or more relevant providers. Refer to Shared Education Act…

Benefits of Shared Education Helps meet the aims of the NI curriculum Increase access to high quality learning, creative and critical thinking Improved social and personal skills for all students Promotes the efficient and effective use of resources Promotes equality of opportunity, respect for diversity and community cohesion

Shared Education Project The project over three years will focus on developing a pastoral support programme on Enhancing Resilience. Resilience is defined as an individual's ability to successfully adapt to life tasks in the face of social disadvantage or highly adverse conditions. Adversity and stress can come in the shape of family or relationship problems, health problems, or workplace and financial worries, among others. Resilience is one's ability to bounce back from a negative experience with "competent functioning". Famous failures https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLYECIjmnQs

Expected outcomes of the Shared Education Project to create resilient students who are reconciled with themselves, their aspirations, their community and diverse world around them. for students to have developed effective coping strategies to enhance and enable their learning. for students to have developed skills in team building, leadership, communication and presenting.

Overview of SEP 2017-2018 Throughout this year the Year 9 Shared Education Group will take part in a range workshops to raise awareness of a range of issues such as: safety in a digital world (CEOP workshop, December 2017) ‘healthy minds’ (Action Mental Health, MensSana programme, February 2018) diversity within their shared community (ongoing) Students will further develop their knowledge and skills in Year 10s and 11. They will explore issues around healthy relationships, exam stress, drugs and alcohol misuse. The group will work together in a spirit of reconciliation to explore issues and gain an understanding of these issues thus enhancing their resilience for life's challenges. A joint celebration event with the Year 10 Shared Education Group will be arranged in June 2018.
