To display all families simultaneously, we collapse their fluctuation distributions by dividing by their SDs. If families conform to the Gaussian hypothesis, then their scaled fluctuations should fall along the cumulative density line of a normal N(0, 1) distribution, as shown in (B). We further confirm this normal distribution in fig. S3.
