Is that You reign in me again. Lord, Reign in Me Over all the earth You reign on high, Every mountain stream, every sunset sky, But my one request, Lord, my only aim Is that You reign in me again.

You are the Lord of all I am So won’t You reign in me again? Lord reign in me, Reign in Your pow’r, Over all my dreams In my darkest hour; You are the Lord of all I am So won’t You reign in me again?

‘Cause You mean more to me So won’t you reign in me again? Over every thought, over every word, May my life reflect the beauty of my Lord ‘Cause You mean more to me Than any earthly thing. So won’t you reign in me again?

You are the Lord of all I am So won’t You reign in me again? Lord reign in me, Reign in Your pow’r, Over all my dreams In my darkest hour; You are the Lord of all I am So won’t You reign in me again?

You are the Lord of all I am So won’t You reign in me again? Lord reign in me, Reign in Your pow’r, Over all my dreams In my darkest hour; You are the Lord of all I am So won’t You reign in me again?

Won’t You reign in me again?

AND CAN IT BE?   And can it be that I should gain an interest in the Savior’s blood! Died He for me, who caused His pain? For me, who Him to death pursued? Amazing love! How can it be that Thou, my God, should die for me? He left His Father’s throne above; so free, so infinite His grace! Emptied himself of all but love, and bled for Adam’s helpless race. Tis’ mercy all, immense and free! For, O my God it found out me! Long my imprisoned spirit lay, fast bound in sin and nature’s night. Thine eyes diffused a quickening ray, I woke; the dungeon flamed with light. My chains fell off; my heart was free. I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

The Problem With Pastors . . . And The People They Serve 1 Corinthians 3:5-9 Pastor John 03 September 2017

"For a sample of this week's sermon, push the button." Note found on a hand dryer in a local church bathroom

The purpose of this passage . . . To help congregations have a proper perspective of their pastor. To help pastors have a proper perception of their ministry. To help both (pastor & congregation) see that nothing take place without God’s power.

A pastor must have . . .   A servant’s heart – 3:5

“ministers” (NKJV) or “servants” (ESV and NASB) means “a table waiter”

“How shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed “How shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:

‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things.’ . . . So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:14-15,17 “as the Lord assigned to each” (NASB)

The place of pastoral ministry is determined by God.

An important question to consider then . . . Knowing that God has “assigned” a particular pastor to serve in a particular place . . . how will that change your perspective and present relationship that you have with the pastor?

A pastor must have . . .   A servant’s heart – 3:5 A spiritual mission – 3:5,6

The defining mission of the pastor is to compel spiritual progress among the people they are assigned to.

“Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. To this end I also labor…” Colossians 1:28, 29

“Obey those who rule over you and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.” Hebrews 13:17

Pastor’s affect your spiritual progress through . . . By faithfully preaching/teaching of the Word of God.

“I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season, convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.” 2 Timothy 4:1-2

Pastor’s affect your spiritual progress through . . . By faithfully preaching/teaching of the Word of God. By faithfully preparing you to serve.

“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11-12

A pastor must have . . .   A servant’s heart – 3:5 A spiritual mission – 3:5,6 A sufficiency beyond himself – 3:6,7

“God was causing the growth” and “God who causes the growth” (NASB)

A pastor must have . . .   A servant’s heart – 3:5 A spiritual mission – 3:5,6 A sufficiency beyond himself – 3:6,7 A proper view of success – 3:8

“His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things . . . Enter into the joy of the Lord.” Matthew 25:21

Pray that your pastor will . . .   Stay humble in relationship to God and in relationship to ministry.

“Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God...” 2 Corinthians 3:5

Pray that your pastor will . . .   Stay humble in relationship to God and in relationship to ministry. Serve willingly and not grudgingly.

“Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion, but willingly, not for dishonest gain, but eagerly, not being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.” 1 Peter 5:2-4

Pray that your pastor will . . .   Stay humble in relationship to God and in relationship to ministry. Serve willingly and not grudgingly. Stay faithful and encouraged to the task at hand.

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:58

Maintain the proper perspective of your pastor by . . .   Acknowledging his role in your life. Allowing God to use him in your life to help you grow spiritually. Accepting his encouragement, his correction, his rebuke, and his affirmation. Always cherishing Christ more than you pastor.

You Are My King (Amazing Love) I’m forgiven because You were forsaken. I’m accepted, You were condemned. I’m alive and well, Your Spirit is within me Because You died and rose again.

Amazing love, how can it be – That You, my King would die for me? Amazing love, I know it’s true, And it’s my joy to honor You. In all I do let me honor You.
