Session 3 Conclusions & Recommendations Yukio Hiramatsu Chairman, ITU-T SG11 (NTT) 2019/10/25

Presentations in Session 3 Research and Policy Factors affecting the evolution towards NGN / Dr. Paulo de Sousa NGN Drivers: Access and core Networks, legacy services migration issues; / Dr. Sathya Rao Nomadic users : mobility management in next generation networks / Mr. Frédéric Delmond NGN Research in China / Mr. Jiang lin-tao (Written speech) 2019/10/25

Overview of issues in the session NGN: IP based, full service (broadband, fixed and mobile) Various types of access for the last mile (fiber, cable, wireless, Ethernet, etc.) Service level convergence across different types of networks Evolution of core and access networks with IP based common protocols Key technology development for NGN (Photonic Net., QoS, Security, Management, Mobility management, etc.) Policy drivers (e.g., eEurope and the IST programme) Requirements to support nomadic users (user ID, access control, information handling & VHE) within and across networks 2019/10/25

Conclusion and recommendations Common views expressed in Session 3 (and even across sessions) regarding NGN core and access trends, convergence between fixed and mobile services / architecture / protocols, etc. Need to seek for the maximum commonality in (IP based) protocols that are to work across different types of networking technologies Need to define work areas for the ITU-T and to develop active and real-time coordination framework with relevant SDOs 2019/10/25
