https://indico.cern.ch/event/808547 workshop 13-14 June 2019 https://indico.cern.ch/event/808547 Discussion
This first workshop was aimed as introduction to and presentation of STEAM, and give participants all input to start using it. Feedback to day 1: anything missing? (what was good, bad, missing) Is there interest for a 2nd workshop (next year) also giving the participants a platform to show their simulations (with/without STEAM)?
New tools: Ideas for tools we should add? THEA? Do you have a tool you would like to integrate in STEAM (note: the ownership and support remain with the author, the author can give free access or has to give access to each individual user) We now rely heavily on commercial software (Comsol, PSpice, Ansys) which are available at CERN. Is there interest to go towards open-source? Should we implement better helium models? Could 3D models bring more? BBQ: Are multistrand models of cables or turn-to-turn propagation needed?
Validation: Besides data from SM18 (CERN), do people have a good set of experimental data for validation? Should we create a ‘library’ of a variation of experimental data to be used for code/tool validation? Do people have material data not yet included in our library? Need for app to have fast feedback during magnet test campaign?
