The different purposes of text What is a text? ‘The words of something written’ ‘The main body of a written work’

Purpose What is purpose? Purpose means ‘what is the aim or goal?’ of the text. Or ‘who is it aimed at?’ Different texts have different purposes. This is dependant on The audience - who is the text written for? The source- where it is form?

Text can have different purposes. Such as to….. Describe Inform Instruct Persuade

Texts with a purpose to describe…. What is the purpose of this text? Wants you to picture what is being described Makes use of adjectives and adverbs Uses comparisons to help create the scene such as ‘soft as silk’ Employs the readers 5 senses

Texts with a purpose to inform… Avoid repetition Contain facts Give information in a clear way Usually to ‘advise’ or ‘tell’ you something
