Department of Business & Neighborhood Services Mission Statement: The mission of the Department of Business and Neighborhood Services (BNS) is to protect and improve the quality of life of persons and animals in the City of Indianapolis. Adoptions increased by 38% over 2017 (4,442) In 2017, ACOs responded to 27,263 calls.

Reporting Complaints Mayo​r's Action Center: The Mayor's Action Center (MAC) provides the citizens of the Consolidated City of Indianapolis and Marion County with a single point of contact to request City services, obtain information, or provide feedback. Animal Care Services (ACS) To Report an Issue with an Animal: Mayor’s Action Center RequestIndy App Non-emergency police line (317-327-3811) on weekends or after-hours 911 if there is an emergency (i.e. dog attack)

Animal Care Services (ACS) 2018 By The Numbers 14,126 Animals Taken In 6,173 Animals Adopted 25,333 Calls Responded to by Animal Control Officers (ACOs) Adoptions increased by 38% over 2017 (4,442) In 2017, ACOs responded to 27,263 calls. 2019 Budget. TY to the Mayor and Council, who voted unanimously to include additional funding this year for ACS, which accomplished 3 very important things: Increasing the number of ACO from 19 to 23; Created an administrator position to manage to the day to day operations of the shelter; and, $60k in additional funding for veterinary services

Common Issues ACS Investigates Neglect or Abuse ACO goes out within 2-3 days If violations are observed, owner is educated and given time to comply with ordinance ACO will return and re-check the situation If violations have not been resolved, citations may be issued and the animal may be impounded. Loose Animals - Please have address of where the dog lives when you call. - 1st complaint = letter mailed to owner - 2nd complaint = ACO sent out to educate owner - If the problem continues, we encourage the complainant to get proof (video or pictures) and file a complaint asking to speak to an ACO.

Building Permits Three Main Permits: Two Ways to Submit: Drainage (DRN) Structural (STR) Improvement Location Permit (ILP) Two Ways to Submit: In person M/T/Th: 8:00am – 5:00pm Wed: 12:00pm – 5:00pm Fri: 9:00am – 5:00pm Online www.indy.gov/activity/permits-and-cases Again, the 3 main permits How they can be submitted.

Construction Services Building Inspections 2018 Yearly Statistics: 35,875 building inspections completed 76.7% completion rate Types of Building Inspections: Final Inspection (Required for ALL building permits) Structural Electrical Plumbing Heating & Cooling Wrecking

Construction Services Construction without Permits & Unlicensed Contractors Enforcement As of April 1, 2018 this work is performed under Construction Services Complaints from citizens should be sent through the Mayor’s Action Center Construction Before/After Hours: Construction Hours are 7 days a week from 7AM-7PM For complaints related to construction outside of permitted hours, email bns.constructionservices@indy.gov or call 317-327-8938 We are hoping to set this up as on option online for the MAC or in Request Indy soon.
