Waikato Economic Joint Venture Project Overview Confidential June 2014

“What are the impacts, how big, and who will be impacted?” Waikato Economic Joint Venture Project Background Commissioning a series of studies to evaluate potential impacts of setting water quality objectives and limits. Key partners are Central Government, Dairy NZ, Waikato Regional Council (WRC) and the Waikato River Authority (WRA). Assessing ‘impacts’ Considers environmental, economic, social and cultural costs and benefits across all direct market values (e.g. agriculture) and non-market values (e.g. recreation) of fresh water. Purpose Support policy making by central govt, regional council & community Develop an approach to support the Healthy Rivers Plan Change Build genuine partnerships “What are the impacts, how big, and who will be impacted?”

Methodology – Overarching Framework This gives an overview of the approach of the studies, each regional study is different in scope and approach Commissioning a series interlinking economics, science and policy to assess the potential impacts of scenarios for setting freshwater quality objectives and limits.
