North East ISD 2018-2019 The Evolving Role of the Family Specialist NEISD recognizes the important of family engagement for over 20 years. The state and federal government has set expectations for family engagement. We now have 47 campuses that have a family specialists to assist with family engagement. Welcome to our new campuses. The purpose of today’s meeting is to review the mission and purpose, federal laws, and share best practices for the betterment of NEISD Family Engagement.

“It takes a village to raise a family” Our Mission The mission of the NEISD Family Specialist is to build communication between parents, the school, and the community; to assist students and families who are experiencing barriers; and, to empower all parents to fulfill their role as their child’s first teacher. “It takes a village to raise a family” -African Proverb Read slowly and emphasize the “to empower all parents to fulfill their role as their child’s first teacher”

Statutory Requirements Title I (SW) – ESSA Section 1116(b-c) Element 3 within your Campus Improvement Plan. Title III (Bilingual) - ESSA Section 3111(b)(2)(D)(iv) Increase not only parent and community engagement in programs that serve ELs, but also family engagement. Early Childhood Education - TEC §29.168 LEA shall develop and implement a family engagement plan to assist the district in achieving and maintaining high levels of family involvement and positive family attitudes toward education. The family engagement plan must be based on family engagement strategies established under Subsection (b).

Effective Family School Partnerships These are examples of effective family school partnerships to add to the one you wrote down. Holistic engagement includes both community building and student learning which results in a trusting relationship with all families.
