Goal Setting
Goal Setting—Tip 1 Specific Goals focused on skills Poor Example 1: I will earn a ribbon at all meets Poor Example 2: I will do better than I did last year Great Example: I will show clean and clear characterization through the use of character positions and voices.
Goal Setting—Tip 2 Goals should be measurable Great Example: I will show clean and clear characterization through the use of character positions and voices How to measure it: By the Farmington meet, no judge will comment on how my character voices/positions are too slow, inconsistent, or ill-fitting
Goal Setting—Tip 3 The steps you’ll take to achieve your goal should also be specific Poor Example 1: I will practice Poor Example 2: I will work with a peer Great Example: I will (1) work with my coach on my protagonist’s accent, (2) watch example videos on YouTube pertaining to vocal variety, (3) practice my piece at home at least 30 min. a day—5 days a week, and (4) ask for tips from __ – my teammate – who already does this well
Goal Setting—Tips 4 & 5 It should be realistic We will only be focusing on the first half of the season (the four February meets) Keep in mind your experience level and current skillset You need people to keep you real – these people may or may not be from your category
