Relationships S1 Learner Journey

Learning Intentions By the end of this lesson you should be able to: Define the term ‘Relationship’ State good qualities of a friendship and relationship Explain rights and responsibilities Explain the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication

Task 1 You will have heard the term ‘relationship’ used often… but what does it mean? a) Write down your own definition of the word ‘Relationship’. It should start: “a relationship is…”

Check your definition Relationship: The connection between two or more people or groups and their involvement with one another, especially as regards the way they behave towards each other. b) Copy down this definition. c) Write down the different types of relationships you have with people e.g Parent-Child

Task 2 Write down 5 things you think are most important in making a good relationship Would you choose the same things for a good friendship? Write down reasons why some relationships and friendships break down. Discuss as a class

Task 3 Rights and Responsibilities Everyone has certain rights and responsibilities in relationships e.g responsibility to be safe from harm (parent/child). Right to an education (teacher/pupil) a) Write down 3 rights and responsibilities in relationships

Task 4. What is verbal communication? What is non-verbal communication? Give 3 examples Discuss c) Why is non-verbal communication just as important as verbal communication?
