As you imagine your student potentially heading off into the world on their own four years from now, what are the most important skills or behaviors that they still need to develop in order to be successful? Talk in Your Group

English 9 Life Skills Doing things that you don’t want to do Keeping track of your handouts, notes, and materials Printing papers off the website when you lose your copy Preparing for quizzes and assessments independently Learning to structure big projects to avoid procrastination Talking to teachers and adults to advocate for yourself Problem-solving when something goes wrong, rather than relying on adults to solve it Knowing when to challenge something that seems pointless or unfair, and when to let it go English 9 Life Skills

Responsibility in HS High school is a difficult transition for many By the end of high school, they should be independent, self-reliant individuals, but they’re not there yet. One of our goals is that by the end of the year, students will manage their own time and assignments without teacher/parent input In between then and now, we will support them as they develop the skills they need Responsibility in HS

Students will be required to keep track of assignments in some way—I recommend Wunderlist Features of free Wunderlist App Different lists for different contexts (work, school, etc.) Tasks can be set to repeat Shared tasks or shared lists between groups Sorts by date or importance Star the most important tasks to appear at the top Student responsibility rather than teacher/parent Wunderlist
