IN YOUR NOTEBOOK on P.7 Purpose:  In this exercise, you will examine  pictures of both living and non-living things. By the end of this lab, you will be able to list the basic characteristics that define life. Materials:  Pictures and specimens of living and non-living things. Procedure:                                  1. Go around the room and use the  Characteristics of Life PPT  pictures.                                                          2.On the chart, write down the name of the specimen and whether you think it was living or non-living. By non-living, we mean anything that never was alive.                                                                                                                                                                                   3. In the next column, list a couple of reasons why you think that specimen was either living or non-living. 4. Return to your seat and answer the questions below.        Conclusions 1. What characteristics are shared by all of the specimens you identified as living? 2. What were some reasons why you felt certain things should be described as non-living?
