Sex and Relationship Education at UCPS Parent Presentation for Year 1

Aims of this session To inform you of the SRE overview To provide you with a summary of the lessons to be taught

Overview of the Year 1 SRE programme To understand some basic hygiene principles Know how to keep clean and look after oneself To introduce the concept of growing and changing Understand that babies become children and then adults Know the differences between boy and girl babies To explore different types of families and who to ask for help Know there are different types of families Know which people we can ask for help

Lesson 1 - To understand some basic hygiene principles

Lesson 2 - To introduce the concept of growing and changing

Activities to be completed Ordering life cycle pictures Using word to describe each age phase (e.g baby, toddler, adult etc)

Lesson 3 - To explore different types of families and who to ask for help

Right to withdraw SRE has two aspects: Science (about labelling body parts and reproduction) Personal Social Health & Emotional PSHE (which is about how to form positive loving relationships, learn about hygiene, learn how to solve problems with relationships, different types of family) Parents have a right to withdraw from SRE lessons from the PSHE aspects – they cannot withdraw from the science Please speak with class teacher if you would like to withdraw your child from the PSHE aspects.

Questions Emphasise: Appropriateness of content as defined in scheme Giving distance (e.g. children can write anonymous questions) Right to withdraw (from the PSHE aspect – link to citizenship)
