Organ Donation Organ donation is the removal of the tissues of the human body from a person who has recently died, or from a living donor, for the purpose of transplanting. Organs and tissues are removed in procedures similar to surgery. People of all ages may be organ and tissue donors. Many states have sought to encourage the donations to be made by allowing the consent to be noted on the driver's license.

Licensing Licensing bureaus in many countries add an organ donation option on license forms Sometimes a small picture of a heart or the term Organ Donor is printed on the driver's license, to indicate that he/she has agreed to donate his/her organs in case of a sudden death, such as in a car accident.

Donate for Life When you first apply for and each time you renew your license, you will be asked if you'd like the "Organ Donor" designation to appear on your license. This registry enables all New Jersey residents, with a state-issued license or ID, age 18 or older, to register their decision to be an organ and tissue donor online. This decision qualifies as a legal document of gift that cannot be revoked by anyone but you.

Donation Your physical condition, not your age, determines your potential for organ and tissue donation and is evaluated on a case-by-case basis at the time of death. A history of health problems does not automatically restrict you from becoming a donor. Donation cannot occur until after a person has died. In the event of an accident or emergency, physicians and nurses will do everything possible to try to save your life.
