Where in the World is all the water? What is the pattern of freshwater in the World? Why do some places enjoy a water surplus and others suffer a water deficit?

Learning Objectives To know a range of sources of freshwater. To know that water resources are unevenly spread across the globe. To understand factors that create a water deficit.

Water, capitals and countries loop cards Starter Water, capitals and countries loop cards

Main: The hydrosphere is ‘the part of the Earth that contains water’. Sources of fresh water Ice

In pairs describe the pattern of the distribution of freshwater across the world.

Is there enough freshwater for us all? What evidence do we need to collect before we can answer this question?

Look at the cards you have been given carefully. How does the water balance from country to country? Using an atlas locate the place on your card Predict if it has a higher or lower water consumption rate than the UK Does it depend on water originating from outside its border? Does it have a water surplus or deficit?

Where am I? Post-it note fun! Plenary Where am I? Post-it note fun!

Homework Identify the different sources of water and decide which are accessible to people.   Use evidence to predict whether a country has a water surplus or deficit
