Warning Signs -Insomnia or sleeping too much -Feeling like a burden to others -Social isolation/withdrawal -Feeling overwhelmed -Irritable/agitated -Sudden happiness after prolonged -Losing interest depression -Feeling trapped/hopeless -Talking about wanting to kill themselves -Talking about a plan to kill themselves -Giving away personal belongings
KEY POINTS Don't be afraid to ask whether the person is considering suicide, and whether they have a particular plan or method in mind. Research shows these questions will not push them toward suicide if they were not considering it
Assessing Suicide RISK Does the patient have the Resources/means to hurt themselves? Is the risk Imminent? Is the patient Suicidal/admits to having suicidal thoughts? Does the patient have the Knowledge/plan of how they will do it?
