Slide Show Tools Set Up Show command Rehearsed timings Hidden Slide A table can be inserted into a slide. You will need to discuss the difference between rows and columns. Point out to students that a table can be customized with color, lines, shadowing and more. Students can rehearse a presentation by using the Rehearse Timings feature. You need to discuss the aspect of hiding a slide. Point out to students that once a slide has been hidden a little hide icon appears in the lower right corner of the slide as shown in the Slide Sorter view. Hidden slides can be viewed during the presentation by using the Slide Navigator commands. The Slide Navigator is used to go directly to any slide. The Meeting Minder and Action Item slides enable you to keep track of questions during a presentation and the Action Item helps you keep track of actions that need to be taken that were discussed during the presentation. The Header and Footer commands enable you to insert a title that you want to see on every slide and/or a slide number. Hidden Slide

PowerPoint and the Internet HTML Save As Web Page command The Internet can be a very useful resource for finding information, clip art and much more. You may want to take the time to refresh students about searching on the Internet. A search engine is an amazing tool. It uses the student’s choice of keywords and Boolean operators to establish a search. It is important to understand that since all search engines have different databases and use different logical operators the answers will differ—so use multiple search engines. The documents returned are referred to as hits. Point out to students that more search engines become available quite frequently. There is no one consensus on the “best” search engine. Talk to students about the Save As/right mouse button for saving graphics. Let students know how to insert those graphics later into a PowerPoint slide. Perhaps one of the most important concepts for students is the copyright infringement issue. Copyright – provides legal protection to a written or artistic work, giving the author exclusive rights to its use and reproduction. Public domain – rights to a written or artistic work have been given by the author so everyone can freely reproduce and distribute the work. Fair Use exclusion – using a copyrighted work in your document when used for educational, non-profit purposes or for the purpose of critical review or commentary that does not violate copyright laws.

Fun With Photographs The Photo Album Import multiple photographs into your PowerPoint Presentation Specify if you want one, two, or three photos per slide Photos can be imported from your hard disk, a scanner, or a digital camera Photos can become a backgrounds for your slides using the Format Background command Photos can be used as Fill for WordArt using the Format WordArt command The Photo Album - imports multiple photographs into a presentation, without having to format each picture individually. The photos may be taken from your hard disk, a scanner, or a digital camera. Regardless of the origin or file format of the photographs, you can specify how many pictures you want per slide (one, two, or four), choose from a variety of picture frames (rounded corners are used in our figure) and/or insert a caption below each picture. Photographs, File Formats, and File Folders – A photograph may be stored anywhere on a hard disk. You can move and copy photographs from one folder to another, or from one device to another; e.g., from a hard disk to a zip drive, floppy disk or CD (provided you have the software to write to the CD). A photograph has the same attributes as any other file, which include the file name, type, file size, and date the file was created or last modified Transitions and Animations – Emphasize the difference between a transition and animation. AutoContent Wizard Task Pane Asks a series of questions Builds an automatic Color Scheme Builds a general Outline Helps you get started The AutoContent Wizard enables students to start a presentation with a set of pre-defined layouts. This is a nice tool to use for getting started.
