Welcome to DCCCD Conference Day 2018 http://tinyurl.com/apply-to-Honors

Greetings Richland Honors Program Basics Future Richland Honors Student Center Richland Honors Study Abroad Questions and Answers http://tinyurl.com/apply-to-Honors

http://tinyurl.com/apply-to-Honors Honors Program Basics What is our purpose? What are Richland Honors courses like? Who are the Richland Honors faculty and what are our expectations of them? What are the Honors Student Learning Outcomes? How do students achieve the Richland Honors Certificate or the Richland Honors Scholar Designation? What are Honors Co-Curricular and Extra-Curricular Activities? Example articulation agreement: recent Richland transfer agreement with the UT Dallas Honors College http://tinyurl.com/apply-to-Honors

Purpose http://tinyurl.com/apply-to-Honors The Richland College Honors Program provides highly qualified students with an enriched and challenging academic community where they develop the capabilities necessary to excel in their educational and career goals. http://tinyurl.com/apply-to-Honors

Richland Honors courses are Smaller (20 students instead of 25, or 25 instead of 30 or more) Discussion-based (all Honors students means greater student participation in class discussion) Collaborative (group projects reflect the work that will be expected after graduation) Enjoyable (greater interaction with Honors peers and Honors faculty) Rewarding (the enriched environment creates memories that last a lifetime!) Excellent preparation for four-year institutions and beyond (graduate school, law school, medical school, dental school, pharmacy school)! http://tinyurl.com/apply-to-Honors

http://tinyurl.com/apply-to-Honors Richland Honors Faculty Are mostly full-time, but adjunct faculty are welcome to propose a course Complete an Honors course proposal form that must be signed by their Dean and Program Coordinator each semester Turn in their course proposals on time (in November for the following fall and May for the following spring) May teach Honors for four semesters before taking a required one-semester break to allow their colleagues the opportunity to teach Honors students and to increase the pool of Honors Faculty Report renewed energy and enthusiasm for their disciplines and for their teaching. They tell me it’s what most of them always thought education would be! http://tinyurl.com/apply-to-Honors

Co-Curricular components complement the Honors students’ curricular studies by providing additional experiential learning in the students’ academic area and by exposing students to academic development that will further scholarly inquiry and investigation. Co-curricular activities are related to students’ courses, majors, and/or career paths. (Guest lectures, field trips, on-campus events plus assignments or reflections, and service learning are a few examples.) Extra-Curricular components allow students to become full participants in a wide variety of cultural, aesthetic, artistic, and innovative endeavors and presentations that are outside of the students’ normal area of studies. (Musical or theatrical performances, Ducktober Festival, Cinco de Mayo Festival, and Brazos Gallery art exhibits are a few examples.) http://tinyurl.com/apply-to-Honors
