Comments on the North Experimental Area Consolidation Request Form EDMS 2141518 F. Gautheron, Y. Kadi, A. Papageorgiou Koufidou, E. Solodko, M. Wilhelmsson (EN-EA-PE) 10th EABI-WG meeting, 8 May 2019

General Comments Document is clear and concise => much needed for the completion of the NA-CONS Study Report (EDMS 2042932). Formatting (reference, history of changes, date…). Include the number of instruments of each category to be consolidated or upgraded in primary and secondary beam lines. The most urgent ones could also be highlighted (LS2 ?). Cost breakdown per category of instrument should be included as well. Present NA-CONS strategy in line with TT20+BDF/TDC2 junction works to take place during a two-year long LS3 (2025-2026). May need to adjust the presented schedule. Y. Kadi et al. - Comments on the North Area Consolidation Request Form – 10th EABI WG meeting

Primary Beam Line Cons./Ugrade Distinguish between TT20 and TDC2/TCC2 Cabling/de-cabling requirements needs to be specified in more details (identification, volume, length, etc…) => derive cost estimate Highlight what is specifically required for BDF For the upgrade, are the future intensity requirements taken into account ? Y. Kadi et al. - Comments on the North Area Consolidation Request Form – 10th EABI WG meeting

Secondary Beam Lines Cons./Ugrade Not all can be done during LS3 ! Need to define some priorities Strategy for NA-CONS today : priority driven by physics post-Ls3, that is K12 and M2 beamlines over other beamlines Is it correct to assume that upgrade will take place after LS3 ? Cabling/de-cabling requirements needs to be specified in more details (identification, volume, length, etc…) => derive cost estimate For the upgrade, are the future intensity requirements taken into account ? Numbers Y. Kadi et al. - Comments on the North Area Consolidation Request Form – 10th EABI WG meeting

XCET “The new gas system of the XCET in the Neutrino Platform is capable of handling higher pressures than the classic system (15 bar instead of 3 bar), which greatly extends the dynamic range of the monitor. The gas system of the XCET in the North Area should be upgraded similarly” => This is not in line with NA user requirements (extension up to 5 bar Pmax)” Y. Kadi et al. - Comments on the North Area Consolidation Request Form – 10th EABI WG meeting

Risk Assessment Table Not clear to what the risk assessment table refers to ! is it the most critical instrument ? which one ? Y. Kadi et al. - Comments on the North Area Consolidation Request Form – 10th EABI WG meeting

Manpower Currently all personnel resource tables are empty ! One may get the feeling that all the work will be carried out by FSU and FELL/Students ! => Essential to assign and commit STAFF personnel to the project Y. Kadi et al. - Comments on the North Area Consolidation Request Form – 10th EABI WG meeting

North Experimental Area Consolidation Undertake the necessary consolidation actions required prior and during LS2 in order to guarantee a stable and reliable beam operation until LS3. Prepare cost estimates for a more profound consolidation of the existing facilities, to be executed in (or after) LS3, including all possible staging options. Prepare for alternative scenarios covering increased performance linked to the “Physics Beyond Colliders” future requirements and energy optimizations.
