Information for all Year 9 JSS students OPP Test Preparation Information for all Year 9 JSS students

The test is based on this slide It assesses your ability to: Explain and apply the concepts listed here. Apply knowledge based on the core content Locate some Pacific Island nations on a map Use FACKTS

What will the test involve? There are fourteen questions in the test. Some questions are Achieved questions (A), some are Merit (M), and some are Excellence (E). Excellence questions require you to explain your answer in more depth. This means answering in full sentences and providing evidence where possible. Some questions are based on resources provided (articles), and others are based on the case studies you’ve done in class. There are two (Achieved) questions based on Pacific Island mapping and FACKTS

You will be well prepared for the test if you can do these things: Explain in your own words what each of the 5 concepts for this topic means e.g. an impact is something that happens as a result of something else. Give a specific example from a case study you’ve looked at that shows what each of the concepts refers to e.g. one of the impacts of climate change for people in Kiribati is that their houses are flooded during high tides, so they have no dry place to live Locate the Pacific Island nations you’ve studied on a map and use FACKTS correctly Use evidence (specific real life examples) to back up your points Select relevant information from text in order to answer a question

Test conditions - Assessment week is week 9 You will have one hour period to complete the test Please write in blue or black pen. You may want to bring a ruler. You cannot bring any notes into the test Does spelling matter? Spelling is important, and you should be able to correctly spell words that are important for our topic e.g. the names of Pacific Island nations and teh key concepts.

Some revision tools Revision Sheet - Works best when printed A3 Mapping the Pacific Islands Quiz or printable map pop quiz/FACKTS practise Test-style, resource-based revision questions links in the titles go to articles, selection of A, M E questions based on each - could be printed or shared. Articles are ranked in difficulty from Level 1 (easy) to Level three (challenging) Concept mapping A3 sheet - share digitally
