AUTOCRATIC EFFECTIVE WHEN: Time is limited Individuals/Group lack skill & knowledge Group does not know each other

AUTOCRATIC INEFFECTIVE WHEN: Developing a strong sense of team is goal Members have some degree of skill/knowledge Group wants an element of spontaneity in their work

DEMOCRATIC “If it’s got to be, it’s up to us!” CHARACTERISTICS Involves group members in planning and carrying out activities Asks before tells Promotes the sense of teamwork

DEMOCRATIC EFFECTIVE WHEN: Time is available Group is motivated &/or a sense of team exists Some degree of skill or knowledge among members of group

DEMOCRATIC INEFFECTIVE WHEN: Group is unmotivated Members have little skill / knowledge High degree of conflict present
