Mrs. Kane’s Classroom News May 6-10, 2019 In the next few weeks we will be completing a number of different projects and activities. Please see my webpage for due dates, field days, and 4th grade party. Students have been hard at work on their State Research Reports. We’ve been using Tech time to research, as well as learning how to format documents to add to our research packet. Don’t forget State Floats and Reports are due May 13th. STEP UP DAY is May 9th. Students will be going to Hilda Walker to tour the building, meet with student leaders, listen to the band, and learn all about the great offerings they provide. Please make sure students are wearing their Step Up Day Hilda Walker T-Shirt, provided by RESCO. Lunch and snack will be at its regular time. ELA- This is a spelling, grammar, and writing week. Our spelling word skill is spelling with suffixes by changing the ending y. Grammar skills are identifying and using pronouns in writing. Writing will be introducing students to opinion text and using graphic organizers to brainstorm and draft our ideas. Social Studies- Students created a folder for our Civil War Unit. I will be utilizing several mini-books to highlight the important aspects of the war, as well as videos and first-person accounts. This week our time will be spent learning about the causes of the Civil War. Math-  Chapter 7 continues with fractions with the skills of adding and subtracting fractions. Our focus this chapter is adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators, in addition to improper/mixed numbers. Please continue to practice these skills at home.
