ANTENNA PERFORMANCE AND RESULTS Patch Antenna Design Emory Wineland1, Farnaz Foroughian2 Webb School of Knoxville1 The University of Tennessee, Knoxville2 INTRODUCTION APPLICATIONS Antennas are devices used to transmit or receive signals such as radio or television signals; Patch antennas are small, high gain, easy to fabricate, low cost, and high efficiency antennas Military GPS Navigation Mobile and Satellite Communication Radar Telemedicine OBJECTIVES Simulated Fabricated Minimum Size with Maximum Gain Frequency of 2.4 GHz Return Loss of < -10 dB Gain of > 2 dB Matched Simulation and Measurement Results ANTENNA PERFORMANCE AND RESULTS DESIGN PROCESS Simulation using CST STUDIO SUITE 2018 Optimization using Tuning the Dimensions Fabrication using Substrate Sheet and Copper Measurement using Network Analyzer inside the Anechoic Chamber Gain Simulation: 2.17 dB Measurement: 2.07 dB Loss Simulation: -31.7 dB Measurement: -15.9 dB 3D Radiation Pattern CONCLUSION REFERENCES -The smallest change in measurement can greatly alter the results; -It is possible to get similar measurements to the simulation if the fabrication is accurate; -The measurements were very similar to the simulation because the dimensions were close to simulated ones.
