GBA 573 Final Project Andrew Schwarz July 10, 2003 Qualcomm Stadium Wireless Upgrade

Project Overview Stadium built in 1967 Home for Padres, Chargers, Aztecs, Holiday Bowl, & 3 Super Bowls About 70,000 seats Qualcomm has name rights till 2017

Project Analysis Out with the old and in with the new. Sport specific stadiums. Project objective: implement wireless network that can be accessed through a PDA.

Project Scope Easily obtain operational, technical, & economical criteria Product Characteristics & Requirements: wireless service must allow patrons to IM other patrons, online voting, order food, get other game stats, & view instant replays.

Cost/Benefit Analysis Cost Assumptions: 5 people working on the project $50 per hour wage Benefit Assumptions: 100 games at stadium (82 Padre, 9 Charger, 8 Aztec, 1 Holiday Bowl) 10% increase in attendance 15% increase in food orders

Cost/Benefit Analysis Total Costs: $153,000 (cheaper than if installed hard-wire consoles at each seat) Total Benefit: $11,500,00 Average ticket price of $25 for 40,000 people, 10% increase of 4,000 over 100 games-$10 million Average food order $10 for 10,000 orders, 15% increase of 1,500 over 100 games-$1.5 million

Measures of Success Low cost makes it hard not to be a success. If only 5% increase in attendance, still profitable. If only 5% increase in food orders, still profitable. If only 5% of the patrons use it, still profitable.

Project Design 802.11b wireless LAN (local access network) About 10 access points around stadium Monitors at concession stands to receive orders Web based software development Three month time frame(Jan 03-March03) in between seasons

Risk Management Risks: Padres will leave for new stadium Chargers will leave San Diego Aztecs build their own stadium Project does not work Nobody uses it Software will not work with PDA Takes longer than anticipated

Project Implementation Gantt Chart stages: Project design (5 days) Project development (33 days) Implementation/Testing (20 days) Evaluation: Input from patrons as to what can be changed and improved. Continuous support.

Final Analysis Enhance experience Increase ticket and food revenue Save time for the patron Old stadium needs upgrade Help keep Chargers in San Diego Do something that makes the fans want to go to the stadium.
