Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) Walker’s School Wide Behavioral Intervention System Students can earn “Paws” as a classroom for appropriate behavior. Students also earn “Paws” that they can accumulate and turn in at the school store or for a special treat like nachos or popcorn. ~Be Respectful ~Be Responsible ~Be Safe

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support My Discipline Plan Students will be expected to follow classroom and school wide procedures. Should a student violate any of the expectations, a proper consequence determined by the teacher and/or administration, may be issued.

Consequences Consequences may include, but are not limited to: visual cues verbal warning conference with teacher phone call(s) home change of seat detention(s) referral, and/or visit to the office.

Positive Rewards Various rewards will be given throughout the year. Some may include, but are not limited to: Verbal praise Positive notes/phone calls home Team incentives Paws tickets (to purchase items at Paw-Mart)

Homework Policy Assignments that are brought home for completion are usually class work assignments that are not finished during the school day. Your child is responsible for writing daily work in their assignment notebooks. If an assignment is not completed by the following school day (or its due date), it will be considered “missing/late.” A notice of the missing/late assignment will be sent home for a parent or guardian’s signature. The signed notice is due, along with the completed assignment, the next day.

Homework Policy Repeated Late Work Students may be sent to study hall during lunch/intramurals to finish late, missing, or absent work. If an assignment is not completed due to a family emergency, please send me a note/email stating so; otherwise it’s considered late. Repeated Late Work If a student has had five missing assignments, they will be required to attend study hall during lunch/intramurals for two days a week. Subsequent missing assignments will result in an additional day added up to 5 days. After 4 weeks, if a student has not had any additional missing assignments, they are no longer required to attend study hall.

Math “Go Math” Common Core based Encourages students to dig deeper/think outside the box We will be having mini assessments after every few lessons rather than an end of the chapter assessment. These will be counted as summative grades. Students need to practice their multiplication/division facts daily!

Science Matter and Energy in Plants Food Webs Earth’s Systems Teachers at the 5th grade level are using “Next Generation Science Standards” (NGSS). 5th Grade Science Units: Matter and Energy in Plants Food Webs Earth’s Systems Water Sources Matter is Everywhere Observing our Sky We will be using STEMScopes as our guide and will supplement with other resources as needed.

Organization Student Organization Assignment notebook should come home every day. Notes are generally sent home on Friday along with graded papers from the week.

Reassessments for summative tasks. Reassessments will be offered for students earning a D or F on Summative Assessments. For students earning an A, B, or C, one summative reassessment opportunity (per subject, per quarter) will be made available. The student will need to complete a “Request to Retest” form. Students will need to complete additional activities to prepare for retest. Retests may be completed during lunch/intramurals time slot within one week of original assessment. The most recent score will be recorded, as stated by district policy.

Parent/Teacher Conferences Please note that parent/teacher conference sign-ups will be available online this year beginning in October. Reminders will be sent home prior to conferences.

If your child is absent… Please make sure to call the office to notify them of your child’s absence. Let the office know if you will be coming to pick up any missing work, or if work should be sent home with another student in the school.
