Presentation transcript:

Participants modeled space science phenomena using everyday objects. Hands-on Space Science Training for Public Library Staff As libraries across the country prepare to implement space science-themed programs in summer 2019, the Space Science Institute and Lunar and Planetary Institute are partnering with state libraries to deliver training on NASA science learning experiences. Two workshops reached the following states and individuals: NM on 10/31/18: 17 participants CO on 11/15-16/18: 34 participants This effort is part of the SMD Science Activation program and the STAR Library Network-Collaborative Summer Library Program partnership. Cookies were used as a kid-friendly way to explore lunar phases. Participants paced out distances in a scale model of the solar system. Participants modeled space science phenomena using everyday objects. “I feel that I have tools and resources to go back to my community and engage them in learning, exploring, discovery, and creating activities in many areas of space science.” - Workshop attendee Keliann LaConte, Space Science Institute www.starnetlibraries.org; Christine Shupla, Lunar and Planetary Institute; December 12, 2018 Deanne Dekle New Mexico State Library; Beth Crist Colorado State Library
