Kermit Elementary Reporting for Duty-Substitute teachers should report to the front office for their duty in the classroom. Please remember to sign in AND sign out each day with one of the secretaries. Start of the day: 7:30 A.M. End of the day: 4:30 P.M. Other Duties- Occasionally, adjustments will have to be made to a substitute teachers classroom assignment. Please be flexible if the need does arise for you to cover somewhere else during a conference period or if you are asked to take a different classroom assignment upon arrival. Leaving the Campus-Leaving the campus for lunch is allowed, however, if substitute teachers need to leave campus at any other time in the day, you will need to sign out and sign in in the front office.
KES Classroom Duties & Instructional Responsibilities Lesson Plans-Teachers will hopefully leave detailed lesson plans for the substitute teacher in an orange folder, along with any other materials needed for you to execute the lesson. Substitute teachers are to implement the days lesson as closely as possible. In the event that a teacher is absent due to an emergency, and there are not any lesson plans, contact the front office or a neighboring teacher for assistance. Attendance-In the orange folder, there should be two class rosters, one is to be submitted to the front office for attendance by 9:30 a.m. and the other is for you to keep while you are in the classroom for the day. If a student is absent, please mark an ‘A’ by that students name, sign your name at the bottom and send the roster to the front office with a student.
KES Classroom Duties & Instructional Responsibilities Written Work/Grading Papers-Substitute teachers should not assign written work and leave it to be graded except at the request of the regular teacher. Supplies, Materials, & Equipment-The teacher’s room and equipment should be left as found. Candy, stickers or other types of “rewards” belonging to the regular teacher should not be used without prior permission from the teacher. Classroom Management & Discipline-Substitute teachers are expected to reinforce the expectations of the campus and the regular teacher. These expectations are provided in the orange folder and are generally posted in most classrooms. When a student(s) becomes a disruption to the learning environment and the substitute teacher has tried all reasonable efforts to maintain the student(s), the substitute teacher should seek assistance from a school administrator.
Kermit Elementary-End of the Day Classroom-Before leaving the classroom at the end of the day, make sure books, supplies, and all other instructional material have been returned to their original place. Also, leave a detailed note for the teacher letting him/her know who was absent, how much of the lesson was accomplished, important information regarding student behavior and a brief summary of the day’s activities. Office-Substitute teachers need to check out in the front office at the end of the work day. One of the secretaries will have you complete an evaluation form and sign so that you can get paid.
