CVAA: Advanced Communications Services (ACS) ACCESS: Must be accessible, compatible and usable unless not “achievable.” DESIGN: Consider access at design stages May build in access or use third party solutions (like apps) CONSULT with consumers PRODUCTS: May offer products with varied functions, features, and prices accessible to consumers with varying types of disabilities RECORDKEEPING: Required by industry

Video Devices (CVAA requirements) Video devices of all sizes must provide captioning, video description, and emergency access, if achievable Easy access to closed captioning and video description Such as through a button, key or icon

Video Devices (CVAA requirements) User interfaces must be accessible if achievable for people who are blind or visually impaired access to on-screen text menus and programming guides Compliance may be through software, peripheral device, or other solution must be provided free to requester within a reasonable time

A Mechanism that is Reasonably Comparable to a Button, Key, or Icon? Digital Apparatus: Closed Captions Video Description Navigation Device: Closed Captions Commission will consider the simplicity and ease of use of the mechanism. A Mechanism that is Reasonably comparable to a button, Key, or Icon. One of these mechanisms must exist for closed captions on navigation devices. And one must exists for each closed captions and video description on digital apparatus. Things we know about the mechanism: Not necessarily a single step. Not reasonable if user has to turn device off, then on, to activate. Not required to be accessed the same way as sighted. Voice control cannot be the sole means of activation for closed captioning. Gesture controls are ok as long as they are simple and easy to use.
