Introduction Our goal was to make a device that allowed a ball to roll down a track in about 15 seconds We used pieces of wood and plastic tubing to construct our roller coaster
Device Design Place ball into the tube at the top of stand Ball rolls down the tube and drops into a funnel From the funnel, it goes into another tube all the way to the bottom At the bottom, it hits another ball and they roll down a ramp and into a hole
Energy Involved Gravitational Potential Energy stored in the ball becomes Kinetic Energy once the ball begins to move down the roller coaster The momentum of ball one is transferred to ball two when they collide
Conclusion The planning of this project took many hours to complete as did the actual assembly of the roller coaster. We encountered a problem of the ball reaching the bottom too quickly so we had to modify the design slightly by changing the slope and size of the ball.
