“The greatest of faults is to be conscious of none.” --Thomas Carlyle The Greatest fault The greatest of faults is to be conscious of none. Like the Pharisee of Luke 18, if we say we have no sin, we are blinded by pride. Such blindness can be caused by focusing on other’s sins instead of our own, fixating on externals, feeling self-sufficient, failing to love brethren, and failing to ask “What do I still lack?” “The greatest of faults is to be conscious of none.” --Thomas Carlyle

The Greatest fault The Pharisee could see none of his faults (Luke 18:9-14) If we say we “have no sin,” we too are blind (1 John 1:8; John 9:39-41)

What causes The Greatest fault? Focusing on the sins of others. (Matthew 7:1-5) Fixating on selected externals. (Matthew 23:23-28) Feelings of material self-sufficiency. (Revelation 3:17) Failing to love brethren. (1 John 2:11) Failing to ask “What do I still lack?” (Matthew 19:16-20; 2 Peter 1:5-9)

“Who can understand his errors. Cleanse me from secret faults “Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression.” (Psalm 19:12-13)
