BRANDS

WHAT IS A BRAND? A brand is a name, term, sign, symbol, or design which is intended to identify the products or services of one ‘provider’ and to differentiate them from those of competitors. Strong brands normally develop powerful emotional associations

BRANDS AS SYMBOLS Brands become symbols for What they want to express about themselves Brands become symbols for What they stand for What they believe in What they care about What they want to be and achieve What they love

The first step to build a sustainable brand is to capitalize on areas that other comparable schools may not have taken the first step to “control” followed by strengthening your position (or niche area) such that others would find it unprofitable to challenge that position. This would require Borderless exchange of knowledge, Inter-sectoral approach, Interdependency, Changing mind-sets and Multicultural views, collective wisdom, shared values.

To accomplish great things we must first dream and then visualise, then plan… believe and act

A careful long-term resource planning is a pre-requisite for this as the building of brands requires resources such as finances, materials, equipment, people, etc.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES A. High scores B. Critical thinking C. Self-awareness and self confidence D. Holistic preparation for the unforeseen and life E. A love for learning F. Problem solving G. Leadership skills and teamwork

VALUES Set of values that we stand by guide us in terms of crisis

VISION STATEMENT “Provide a description of a desirable future that would be better than the present” “Be achievable in a reasonable amount of time” “Take advantage of opportunities the future can give”

CULTURE AS A CHALLENGE TO POLICY DEVELOPMENT Culture is defined as shared motives, values, beliefs, identities and interpretations or meanings of significant events that resulted from common experiences of members of collectives and are transmitted across age generations.

VISION AND MISSION

As leadership is all about influencing people to achieve a common goal EMOTIONAL LEADERSHIP As leadership is all about influencing people to achieve a common goal an “emotional” approach can be a very important step of the process towards leading schools to become centres of excellence To be effective, leaders must have a solid understanding of how their emotions and actions affect the people around them The better a leader relates to and works with others, the more successful he or she will be in building a school that will become a centre of excellence.
