Subject Selections for Yr11/12 Further Information
Must be getting A/B for pre-Senior General English Pathways Yr11 & 12 Achieving C for pre-Senior General English or completing pre-Senior Essential English Must be getting A/B for pre-Senior General English General Subjects = ATAR Pathway Applied Subjects = Vocational Pathway
Key Points – English and Maths: Students will not be permitted to study other General Subjects without studying General English Some subjects will also require students to study Math Methods – eg. Physics & Chemistry Participation in General English must have English Teacher and HOD English support Participation in General Maths or Math Methods must have Maths Teacher and HOD Maths support
Key Points - TAFE: All students must choose 6 subjects – do not choose Study unless you already have a School-based Traineeship Students applying to study at TAFE - still choose 6 subjects Once students are approved and accepted into TAFE, timetable adjustments can be made All TAFE applications must be approved by the school Students choosing a General Subject/ATAR course are not guaranteed approval to study a TAFE course
Regarding TAFE studies: Students choosing to study a TAFE course one day per week will miss 4 school lessons that day Students are required to catch up on work missed on that day – it is the student’s responsibility to catch up – not the teacher’s!
Why might TAFE not be approved for students studying General Subjects/ATAR course: Students studying General Subjects will miss 1 lesson out of 3 for that subject Eg. Chemistry has 3 lessons each week. If you miss 1 due to TAFE, you will only have 2 lessons for Chemistry. You have to catch up in your own time everything that was covered for that lesson, whether it was theory or practical It is very difficult to pass a subject when you miss 1/3 of the course material each week ATAR students need to concentrate on and prioritise their General subjects to get the best ATAR they can
