THE PARABLE OF THE NEW PATCH & OLD GARMENT Text: Matthew 9:14-16 Mark 2:18-21; Luke 5:33-36

INTRODUCTION: “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: ‘These people honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me. 7. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men. 8. You have let go of the commands of God and are holding to the traditions of men.” Mark 7:6-8

INTRODUCTION: “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.” Colossians 2:8

I. IT WILL EXPOSE WRONG ASSUMPTIONS “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven . . . 4. A time to weep and time to laugh. A time to mourn and a time to dance.” Ecclesiastes 3:1,4

WILL REGULATE THEIR LIVES “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them?” Matthew 9:15 II. IT WILL REGULATE THEIR LIVES

WILL REGULATE THEIR LIVES “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed— not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,” Philippians 2:12 II. IT WILL REGULATE THEIR LIVES

III. IT WILL FIND APPROPRIATE FORMS OF EXPRESSION “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.” Matthew 9:16
