Esophageal Compression by the Aorta After Arterial Switch Doff B McElhinney, V.Mohan Reddy, Gautham P Reddy, Charles B Higgins, Frank L Hanley  The Annals of Thoracic Surgery  Volume 65, Issue 1, Pages 246-248 (January 1998) DOI: 10.1016/S0003-4975(97)01291-5

Fig. 1 (A) Transverse section of a T2-weighted electrocardiogram-gated spin echo magnetic resonance image taken during the initial dysphagia work-up. The esophagus, indicated by the arrow, is compressed between the aortic arch (A) anteriorly and the vertebral body (V) posteriorly. (B) Transverse image at the same level from a T2-gated spin echo magnetic resonance image taken 18 months after the first aortopexy procedure. The space between the aortic arch and vertebral body appears to be slightly wider than before the aortopexy, but it is nevertheless very narrow and the esophagus is again compressed (arrow). (C) Transverse image at the same level from a T2-gated spin echo magnetic resonance image 8 months after the second aortopexy. Again, the space between the aortic arch and vertebral body appears to be slightly wider, but still restrictive. The compressed esophagus is indicated by the arrow. (D) Transverse section at the same level from a T2-gated spin echo magnetic resonance image taken 17 months after transposition of the esophagus into the right side of the chest, where it can be clearly visualized in this image (arrow), far removed from the aortic arch. (T = trachea.) The Annals of Thoracic Surgery 1998 65, 246-248DOI: (10.1016/S0003-4975(97)01291-5)
