Presentation transcript:

If you were Ponyboy, would you want to be part of the rumble If you were Ponyboy, would you want to be part of the rumble? Why or why not? Write a quarter page or more.

“Juvenile Delinquents turned Heros” Turn and talk to your partner: why do you think the press printed this story instead of a more negative one?

How do you think this Press Coverage will affect Ponyboy and Johnny’s trial?

Bias: Prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair

Turn and work with a partner: Write a list of all of the reasons you think the press might have for printing a biased story (a story that clearly leans to one side versus another) To help interest groups Uninformed Money Personal stake Opinions Convincing others to see another side (Defense) To harm or benefit someone else Gain more supporters (or buyers) To put out a “different” story than what everyone else is saying Been biased from the start

What is the purpose of a paper or news channel? What can hold a paper or news channel back from accomplishing this goal?

What kind of news distributors depend on money to exist? DO Depend on Money Do not depend on money

What kind of news distributors require their writers to be fully qualified? Require Qualifications Don’t require qualifications

Consider chapter seven: How did the following characters react to Ponyboy and Johnny’s story, and why were their responses so different? Two-Bit Randy

Read Chapter Eight I don’t need you to answer any questions, I just want you to keep a log of every time S.E. Hinton includes something that gives you a bad feeling about the rumble Then, considering tha tshe is foreshadowing the ruble’s outcome, make a predication about what will happen there
